Hello,
My name is Lisa Bassett and I am a musician living in Chicago, IL. I sing for individuals and their families. I also sing with groups of people in long-term care.
I am part of a growing movement bringing the arts to healthcare. Every day I sing with people. By a bedside or with a group, I see how singing creates a space for healing, joy, and peace.
Singing with my family at an early age.
I come from a singing family. One of my earliest memories was hearing my mother and father sing rounds while they washed the supper dishes outside my bedroom door. We often sang hymns around my mother’s piano.
We sang silly songs my father started on long road trips. When my mother died suddenly, our tradition of singing helped pull us through.
Music is an anchor for me. I sang with loved ones facing health challenges, and I sang beside them when they were dying. We sang for joy and sorrow.
I took up the formal training of the Music for Healing and Transition Program in Chicago. This program gave me a deeper understanding of the ways live music supports healing and the transition process. It gave me the skills to work professionally as a therapeutic musician using a wide range of techniques.
